African Lisbon Tour (ALT) - Lisbon, Portugal

Hey globetrotters! As you may or may not know by now, I’m a resident of Portugal of African descent who is also a natural-born citizen of the United States. My travels and living abroad has afforded me the opportunity to further my knowledge and education regarding truths of the past that have been conveniently erased but not forgotten regarding the Transatlantic Slave Trade and Colonization that impacts every ethnicity, gender, race, sexual orientation, and person of mankind.

The African Lisbon Tour (ALT) in Lisbon, Portugal led by Naky is one of the most authentic, genuine, insightful, intentional, timely street tours and experience that everyone visiting, or living in Portugal and abroad should encounter. Naky is a native of Togo and a resident of Portugal who has a quest for knowledge regarding the division, colonization, transatlantic slave trade and more that has led to the uprising of countries / nations including the wealth, riches and power resulting off the premise and backs of the Africans from the African Transatlantic Diaspora.

Naky’s fact-finding exploration to understand more regarding the down-trodden Africans and the uprising of non-Africans sent him on his mission that turns into discoveries that are telling of the truth that is often unspoken, erased (from the books, minds, and hearts of people) and often not discussed until recently. Naky has taken this information and understanding along with other facts and knowledge to enlighten as many people as possible through the African Lisbon Tour (ATL) regarding the dark past that is brought to light during this time.

The tour addresses the imperialist narratives, reinforcing nationalist and institutionalism that are directly related to racism, division, exclusion, discrimination, and inequality that are being presented for meaningful discussion. In Portugal the conversation is gradually taking root and establishes a recognized understanding and viewpoint that a part of the population simply can no longer extinguish.

The tour is an experience that every human should encounter to learn, understand, digest, and convey to others in the proper context to ensure the negative past events and actions don’t repeat themselves as well as lessons we must all gain from individually and collectively to move forward. Recognizing, identifying, and addressing the past is the way to address the path forward for inclusiveness, equity and more including living, traveling, and working locally and abroad.

The African Lisbon Tour is interactive, engaging and a walking tour that isn’t for anyone who has serious health issues who cannot walk steep hills and stairs; as the touring area of Lisbon are upon the steep hills and many steps. The interactive conversation, questions, and enlightenment that come from one another in addition to Naky’s insight, materials and touring location-specific buildings where specific historical activities and events have taken place, along with various venues and statues are telling of the past that has propelled forward impacting Africans and societies across the world.

This tour amongst many tours is the beginning of many conversations and matters to be addressed and is a great opportunity for any traveler and local to experience and share both locally and abroad.

It is important to note, The African Lisbon Tour (ATL) has partnered with local and global organizations and brands to share and make a positive impact for a world of inclusion as we move forward through our local and global travels and living abroad with purposeful and enriching conversation for a World of Possibilities and the Renaissance Revolution for a Borderless Life.

Again, this opportunity and experience is a must for anyone (inclusive to all) who plans to travel and or live in Lisbon, Portugal.
